I placed an order online at Simply Electronics for the Nokia N900 ten days ago and it finally arrived today, but it was not plain sailing and I will explain why:

Their website says “This product has FREE Delivery! 7 Units In Stock ,Usually Ships in 1-2 Business Days“… Well that is total BS, and what’s more, the second you place the order on their website, your money is taken immediately out of your account. It’s not ideal.

You get a very cheesy email minutes later saying, “Thank you for contacting us! We have received your inquiry and are assigning it to a representative. You can expect to receive a response from us within one – two business days during this busy Christmas period“. Very poor considering I placed the order on the 18th of January 2010, 11 months away from Christmas.

Two days later I emailed them asking when they expected the phone to be delivered. You get the same cheesy reply as above and then a response, “We would like to confirm that we have received your order 1234567. Regarding your request, we are doing our very best to dispatch all orders within the shortest period of time. Although we cannot confirm the exact delivery date, we will certainly try to deliver your order as soon as possible. As soon as your order has been dispatched, we will send a dispatch email and the parcel can be expected to arrive at the delivery address on the following working day.

On the 22nd of January, after hearing nothing I emailed them again, this time stating their delivery policy was SHITE. On the 25th of January I get the following reply, “With regards to your order, we would like to inform you that there has been a slight delay on your order due to high demand for our services. Nonetheless, we have contacted the relevant department regarding your order. Rest assured that we are utilizing all resources to dispatch this item as soon as possible. Once the item has been dispatched, you shall be receiving a confirmation e-mail from us as well as a tracking number to assist you in checking the progress of the delivery“.

I emailed them again on the 26th January. It’s getting annoying now, it is over a week and nothing! I get a reply from them on the 27th of January, “Thank you for your email and sincere apologies for the delay with your order. With regards to your order, we would like to inform you that there has been a delay on the dispatchment of your order due to high demand for our services. However, we have received an update that your order is scheduled to be dispatched today. It is expected to be delivered on the following working day after it has been dispatched. Once the order has been dispatched a notification email will be sent out which includes the tracking number of the parcel. Meanwhile, we will closely monitor the delivery process and will send you a confirmation email as soon as the item has been dispatched.

And true to their word, I got the phone today, ten days after placing the original order and almost at the exact time the tracking website mentioned.

So I am happy. The phone is in perfect working order and everything seems to be in order.

Should it have taken ten days? (No), Should I have been more patient? (No), Do you think it’s right they take your money upfront and then hold you by the danglies? (No), Would I recommend Simply Electronics, based on price & service & communication? (Yes/No/No).

    I ordered a Canon 7D a month ago.
    “Error 20” message was all I could see when I attempted to turn it ON.
    I returned the camera more than 3 weeks ago, I am still waiting for the shipment of a replacement camera!
    Can you imagine how long it would take if you had to return your order for a more subtile problem, such as a defect focusing point?!!
    I would NOT recommend this Hong Kong based company.

    I have just order a lens from Simplyelectronics. I wish I had read this review 1st as I would have saved myself the hassle and gone to a more reputable company.
    This review mirrors my exact experience so far with simplyelectronics. They obviously have a set routine to stall angry customers and just eat up time until they can source the product you’re after. Clearly, they do not hold any stock despite what they say on their website.
    They are out and out liars and I would advise anybody considering a purchase from them to think again…. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

    I ordered a HD camcorder from them and then changed my mind within 12 hours (the same day) and cancelled the order. They acknowledged the cancellation the next day. But can I get my money back? Good question. They have plenty of ready excuses and apologies as to why it is taking so long but it is now two weeks since their refund ‘process’ started and no nearer receipt of the refund. Unfortunately they are living up to their reputation on the web. Now trying to secure the refund via Google and Visa. I think this ‘recommendation’ speaks for itself. BUYERS BEWARE.

    I am having HUGE problems with Simply Electronics! SHOCKING customer service….if you can even call it “customer service!!” Item took 2 weeks to be delivered, item faulty, and I am waiting just over 2 weeks later for my refund, which, I’m worried about, as I’ve read forums saying that they are not very good at refunding!! According to their records they still haven’t even received the item yet, I posted it signed for and recorded (suspected they may deny receiving it).. The reason I am wanting a refund is because they said that they couldn’t just send me a replacement camcorder, it had to be inspected by their faults team which would take 4-6 weeks……SINCE WHEN IN THIS DAY AND AGE DOES THAT HAPPEN AND IF IT DID…TAKE SO LONG???!!! I wanted the camcorder for our holiday, so couldn’t wait that long! Therefore decided on a refund and would rather buy from a “decent” company. Steer clear people, I will NEVER buy from or recommend them to anyone. Their service is disgusting!!! I just want my money back!!!!!!

    I am having big problems with simplyelectronics. They took my money immediately then demanded ID verification which I provided. Since then no goods have been dispatched ten days later, their phone lines are automated fakes. YOU WILL LOSE YOUR MONEY WITH THESE FRAUDS.

    I too was very skeptical about this company. They had the best prices with mixed reviews online. My neigbhour made a purchase not so long ago and she said that her phone arrived in 3 days.     They are right up there with feedback here so coupled with all these factors I decided to take the plunge. I am super pleased to say that I received my goods today (20mins back!!). It came properly wrapped and with all the accessories as mentioned on the site. I am now a proud owner of the Canon PowerShot S95!! in time for my holiday this weekend! Will i buy from them again?     I wish I’d seen your post (and others) before ordering from Simply Electronics. I waited 10 days for an Ipad delivery and lost patience with them and demanded an order cancellation. 30 days on I’m still waiting for the refund and I’ve had to resort to the credit card dispute route.   Never never again will I order of this outfit !
