Patience is a virtue they say. As much as I like new technology, gadgets, mobiles and electronics, buying them when they first come out is a no-no and a waste of money. We were in John Lewis over the weekend having a peek at the laptops and tablets, not really wanting to buy anything, when Jo noticed a cabinet containing pre-owned reduced items and there was the ‘Samsung Galaxy Tab S‘.
It is a 10.5″ 2560×1600 pixel Super AMOLED Display, which is Samsung’s latest all bells and whistles tablet and it was only £244, marked down over a hundred pounds. Even cheaper than a recent Black Friday discount day. 😉
We called one of the attendants who opened the box and the device had not been touched. It was in perfect condition, in fact it looked like the box was the only thing that had been opened by a previous owner and because of this, John Lewis say they will not sell it for the full price, hence the lovely discount. Bargain!
It is an awesome tablet. Light and thin with a thickness of just 6.6mm. It has 3GB of RAM, Octa Core Samsung Exynos 5 1.9GHz Processor, built in GPS, a massive 7900mAh battery, Bluetooth, WIFI, SD-Card support up to 128GB and all the multimedia features one comes to expect from Samsung. It came with Touchwiz (chuckle chuckle) and Android 4.4. Kitkat.
To say we are Samsung crazy is an understatement. We now have a Samsung Smart TV, we each have Samsung Galaxy Note 3 phablet, Jo has an all-in-one Samsung PC and a net book, so this tablet will definitely compliment all of them well.
I chuckled above because I am not a big a fan of Samsung’s touch wiz interface, which they bolt onto Android. They also fill the tablet with bloatware and kak software, which may be useful for some, but not us, so it didn’t take me long to start searching the XDA Developers forum for a new Lollipop Android 5.0 ROM for our Samsung Galaxy Tab S. I found one and it is called BlissPop ROM, which I will post about next.
