Another call to Microsoft sealed the fate of my Surface Pro 3 i7 8GB RAM 512GB SSD. It is going back for a refund. The fan noise and excessive heat is too much. Yesterday I wasn’t running anything incredibly CPU or memory hungry, just browsing YouTube and the computer and the fan noise was unbearable.
Often louder than the video sound itself. Quite a strange thing to happen to such a high end computer and totally unacceptable. There is no way I could get use to it doing that noise, and if it was on my lap the one corner would most certainly burn me as it gets really hot.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the Surface Pro 3 and it is definitely the device for me as it serves all my desktop and tablet needs. Throw in the capability of running Android Lollipop and it suddenly becomes a very advantageous device to have.
I called Microsoft again and they were very understanding and at the same time I felt they couldn’t offer a solution. Their solution was that I ask for a refund and perhaps downgrade to the Surface Pro i5, which to be honest I contemplating trying out, as I have nothing to lose. That is if I have the option to get a refund again if it too doesn’t work out in the first 14 days.
They weren’t too confident that I wouldn’t experience the same problem again. That tells me they have many such complaints.
If the Surface Pro 3 i5 is noisy as well, then I will return it for a refund and wait for the Surface Pro 4 when its out later this year.
That is the one nice thing about Microsoft, their returns policy within 14 days if you are not entirely happy is a really good thing.
