It was a pleasant walk along decent paths. There were a few hill climbs, but nothing too strenuous through lovely forests and low lying ferns and brambles.
Lots of birds and bird song
There were an abundant variety of birds and we spotted ducks on the pond, and lots of Robins, Blue Tits, a Jay, Crows, Jackdaws, a beautiful Song Thrush sitting on the ground sunning itself. We also caught a glimpse of a beautiful Common Kestrel sitting high in the treetops.
History of Holmwood Common
According to the National Trust website in March 1944 a German Junker 88 bomber was shot down over Holmwood Common in the midst of the last Luftwaffe campaign over Britain.
