I used my Strava account to create a lovely figure of eight route via Marsden Park, Woldingham station and back home again. Some of the route planning was not great as it took us through thick bush loaded on either side with stinging nettles. Not pleasant! There were lots of lanes through the forest and beautiful countryside, which was the highlight of the cycle.

Frustratingly, midway up a very steep Tandridge hill lane and at just over half the distance, I noticed my left pedal was moving around a lot and I discovered the washer or cap that holds the left crank in place had fallen out somewhere en route. The bolt was loose and I had to finger tighten it every couple of pedal turns. Annoyingly the Brompton toolkit didn’t have an 8mm Allen key, which would have quickly tightened the bolt. So we headed home. Fortunately, most of the route back was downhill, and I didn’t have to pedal that much.

At Godstone Green, we stopped off at the Hare and Hounds pub for a beer and crisps.
