Disaster! South Africa beaten by Pakistan in the cricket world cup at Eden park, New Zealand.

A game we should have won with ease. Even more disappointing as I was up the whole night.

Our wicket keeper/opening batsman De Kock has not being playing well in the world cup, so why on earth did they let him open the batting again with Amla? Doh! Isn’t it obvious? Put JP Duminy in at 2 with Amla and put De Kock in at 7, where he had less pressure to perform with the bat.

SA should not have lost that match. Trying to smack balls so early in the game is just plain silly. Where were the openers building a base?

AB De Villiers is an awesome player, batter, wicket keeper, fielder, but when it comes to being a captain or a bowler I think some of his decisions some of the times are crazy, almost desperate.

Why did he think he and JP Duminy should bowl a few overs? They were smacked all over the small field. After two overs one could see it was a bad decision, yet he persisted. They cost us 77 runs for one lousy wicket. They lost us the game.

When Steyn came into bat AB should have said “this is the game plan; we get 2 runs per over, a 4 or a 6 for the bad balls. I am the stronger batter, stand in your crease and do not move for 4 balls”.

AB would take the lead and hit everything he could for a six or four or nothing, and by ball 5 or 6 they would look to take a single to get AB back on strike. Get ready to run on ball 5.¬† There was no need for the tail end to come in slogging. Bad captaincy. ūüôĀ he should have said something early on.

My worry for SA is their bowling strategy is a little weak, which is putting pressure on AB’s decision making.

If AB gets that right they will do well.  AB needs to become a good leader ASAP, who makes good decisions most of the time. Failing that, they got one more game to fix a few problems and then its big win or go home time.

Personally I think they should give the captaincy to Amla. He has a calm bald head and has proven he can do the job as seen in test match cricket.

Pakistan played well and took advantage of the poor batting  decisions. It was a wonderful game to watch, but not from a South African point of view.
